Sisamau Bazaar is one of the oldest and busiest traditional marketplaces in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Situated along P Road in the Jawahar Nagar–Nehru Nagar area, the bazaar remains a focal point of the city’s local commerce, drawing residents and visitors for its affordable goods and vibrant street culture.The origins of Sisamau Bazaar trace back several centuries, when the locality of Sisamau (then called Sasaimau) was recorded in twelfth-century donation registers. A structured marketplace emerged in the 1930s after land was granted for commercial use by local landlords. Initially focused on agricultural produce, it expanded through the mid-twentieth century to include textiles, jewelry, utensils, and leather goods, reflecting Kanpur’s rise as a textile and leather manufacturing hub.
