Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College
Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (GSVMMC or GSVM Medical College) is a government medical institution in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established in 1955–56, it was the first medical college founded in the state after independence and remains a major center for medical education, research, and tertiary healthcare in northern India.
Founded under India’s Second Five-Year Plan to expand post-independence healthcare capacity, the college commemorates freedom fighter Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi. Its foundation stone was laid by Rajendra Prasad in 1956, and teaching began in 1957. Initially affiliated with the University of Lucknow, it later joined Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (Kanpur University) and since 2021 has been under Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University.
