Nana Rao Park is a historic public park and tourist attraction located in the Civil Lines area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Once known as the Memorial Well Garden, it was renamed after Nana Rao Peshwa (Nana Sahib) to honor his role in the 1857 Indian Rebellion. Today, it serves as a key recreational and cultural landmark in the city. The park stands on the site of the Siege of Cawnpore, one of the most tragic episodes of the 1857 uprising. It originally housed the Bibighar Well memorial, where British women and children were killed during the rebellion. After India’s independence, colonial memorials were replaced by statues of Indian freedom fighters, symbolizing the nation’s reclaiming of its narrative.
