Chatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University
Chatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), formerly Kanpur University, is a state public university located in Kalyanpur, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established in 1966, it is among the largest universities in northern India, recognized for its extensive network of affiliated colleges and multidisciplinary academic offerings.
Initially founded as Kanpur University, CSJMU was renamed in honor of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, the progressive ruler of Kolhapur known for his educational and social reforms. The university’s establishment aimed to serve the higher-education needs of the industrial and commercial hub of Kanpur and the surrounding districts.
