Moti Jheel is a scenic lake and public recreation area located in the Benajhabar area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Developed during the British colonial era, it serves as both a key water reservoir and a popular urban green space for residents and visitors.

Originally built by the British as a drinking water reservoir for Kanpur, Moti Jheel (“Pearl Lake”) became central to the city’s civic planning. It was part of infrastructure developed for the Civil Lines area, which housed European residents during the colonial period. Over time, it evolved from a utilitarian structure into a landmark reflecting the city’s modern identity.

The lake is surrounded by landscaped gardens, walking paths, and shaded seating areas. A central embankment divides sections of the reservoir, and entry points include park gates and recreational facilities. The adjacent Moti Park and children’s play zones make it a family-friendly destination. The elevated banks provide panoramic views of Kanpur’s skyline.
